Handmade Baskets

If you're looking for unique handmade crafts for gifts, personal use, or home decor, you've come to the right place. This handmade basket was made by Encik Zakaria from Kg. Gemuruh, Pekan, Pahang. Normally, a basket material is usually made using cane but this unique basket is woven using an old newspaper. According to Encik Zakaria, Berita Harian newspaper is the most suitable paper use to make this basket because of the quality of the paper is much smoother than other newspaper. I went to his house while I was doing a group research in Pekan, Pahang in mid August. Normally during school holiday, he got ordered to make bunga telur for wedding gift. He newly got this talent while he just do it as a hobby. You just name it what shape do you want, he can do it. Even though there is a client requesting him to made Aladdin lamp, he can do it.. what an artistic..He did show me some of his samples that he has made such as handbags, vase, standing lamp, wedding gift and others. A cost for one standing lamp and long neck vase is about RM50.

the first step to make small basket is to roll the paper
the second step, the roll papers is woven to make a base

the third step is shape it into your preference
