Homemade Recipe: Mee Rebus

Preparation Time: 40 minutes
Serving: 5 people

Ingredients
500 gm yellow noodle

Beef Stock
400 gm beef bone
10 cups plain water

Gravy
200 gm meat
300 gm small prawn (coated with turmeric & salt, deep fried and blends it)
4 tbsp chilies paste
20 gm cili padi (lagi pedas lagi sedap)
3 garlic
3 onions
2 candlenut
½ inch galangal
1 tbsp curry powder
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 pcs. sweet potatoes & 4 pcs. potatoes – peeled, boil and mashed
Salt & cooking oil

Garnishing Ingredients:
Fresh green chilies- sliced
spring onion – all shredded
bean sprouts
Limau Kasturi- cut half
boil egg – cut half
fried bean curd (cut dice)
fried shallot.

Method:
Prepare garnish before cooking noodle and gravy. Pounded onion, cili padi, candlenut, garlic and galangal. Heat oil and fry pounded ingredients, chilies paste and curry powder until fragrant. Cook paste until dried, and then add water. Add beef stock, meat and boil about 10 to15 minutes. Add mashed potatoes, brown sugar and salt. Simmer gently about 5 minutes.

Blanch noodle in a deep pan.

Add yellow noodle in the bowl, pour in the hot gravy and garnish with green chilies, shredded spring onion, bean sprouts, lime, boiled egg, fried bean curd & fried shallot.

Select for the Best Mee Rebus



Mee Rebus is rank as one of the famous Malaysian food. There are some of the famous spotted area that has been identified as among the Best Mee Rebus in Malaysia which are Mee Rebus Ramli (Ipoh), Corner Coffee Shop in Bangkok Lane (Penang), Mee Rebus Stulang Laut (Johor Baru) and Mee Rebus kuah keledek at Taman Mutiara (Alor Gajah, Melaka). But don't get confuse. If you are in Terengganu, Mee Rebus is actually Mee Sup. There are many stalls and restaurants in Malaysia that selling Best Mee Rebus and one of my favourite place is Mee Rebus at Medan Selera Jalan Setiawangsa, infront of Sek. Keb. Taman Setiawangsa. Actually, the good taste of Mee Rebus mainly depends on the gravy. Some gravy is using chicken bone or beef bone just to give extra ‘kick’. You can get the price of Mee Rebus cost per bowl from RM 2.50 – RM 4.50. The standard Mee Rebus are garnish with fried bean curd, half hard-boiled egg, fried shallots, spring onion and beef slices.

Picnic at Sungai Congkak

Last Sunday is a last day of a mid-year school holiday. I plan to bring my kids to Sungai Congkak, Hulu Langat for a picnic. I need to prepare a food because there is less food store around there. So I plan to prepare a chicken & fish barbeque for our lunch. We just had simple menus for our lunch which are boiled corn, barbeque chicken & fish and rice.

BBQ Chicken

I will like to share my barbeque chicken recipe with the reader.

BARBEQUE CHICKEN

Preparation Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:
SERVED FOR 4

1 whole fresh chicken, chopped into 8 parts

MARINADE:
4 tbsp. dry chilies paste
10 cloves garlic, grinded
2 red onion, grinded
3 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. chili sauce
3 tbsp. black peppercorns lightly ground with grinder
1 tbsp. white pepper lightly ground with grinder
1 bottle barbeque sauce
1 tbsp. fresh lime juice
1tbsp. plain yogurt
1 tbsp. salt

Preparation:
Combine all marinade ingredients in a bowl and stir well. Add chicken parts and turning several times to ensure the chicken is covered with marinade. Allow chicken to marinate at about 2 hours or overnights and place in the refrigerator.

Cook chicken using a BBQ Pit: Heat up the barbeque pit with a charcoal. Place chicken over a hot BBQ pit. Brush with oil and chopped lemon grass. Brush also with the leftover marinade from the bottom of the bowl the first time you turn the chicken pieces. BBQ chicken for approximately 30 minutes.

Traditional Games: Spinning Top/Gasing


Early last year, Faculty of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak has done a research on " Instilling Community Pride Through Heritage Tourism in Kuala Kangsar" . The objective of this research is to assist the community in developing Kuala Kangsar as a heritage tourism destination. One of the heritage element that we have found in Kuala Kangsar is Spinning Top/Gasing. Spinning Top is one of the Malay Traditional that is famous in Kelantan & Terengganu. This famous spinning top located at Sayung, Kuala Kangsar, Perak (a place of famous product of Labu Sayong). This spinning top is one of the popular traditional games especially amongst villagers in Sayong. Here we met Pak Andak (the Gasing maker) and according to him, Gasing is played during the birthday celebration of Sultan of Perak. An expert top-spinner can make a perfectly balanced gasing spin for as long as two hours at a stretch. We have spent about an hour at the ‘Gasing’ workshop listening to the whole story of Pak Andak on how to make Gasing. He also did show us on how to play Gasing.

My Friend's Weeding

I just want to share photos with my office mate for those who don’t have a chance to attend Ustaz Khairil Amir’s wedding on last week, 6 June (Saturday). I got a chance to attend his weeding cause at the same time I was on holiday with my family to Jitra, Kedah. At first it is quite confuse to find his house with a map given on the weeding card, but at last, me and my husband manage to find his house at about 12.05 noon. Know what... we are the first guest arrived at that event, but it is ok, kita rasmi dulu makan, emm.. memang sedap, all the food served very simple menu but fresh and delicious…thanks to ustaz Amir’s parents for their hospitality, sampai kita orang datang dua kali, second time makan mee rebus & laksam.
